Accreditation & Authorization

According to the United States Department of Education there are two basic types of accreditation for institutions of higher education: Institutional Accreditation and Specialized or Programmatic Accreditation. The University of South Los Angeles has institutional accreditation and is affiliated with the following accrediting organizations. The University is currently licensed to operate by the BPPE.

University of South Los Angeles (USLA)  is a member of the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) [15935 Forest Road, Forest, VA 24551; Telephone: 434.525.9539; e-mail: info@tracs.org] having been awarded Accredited status as a Category IV institution by the TRACS Accreditation Commission on October 27, 2020; this status is effective for a period of up to five years. TRACS is recognized by the United States Department of Education, the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE).

University of South Los Angeles (USLA) is a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) [One Dupont Circle NW, Suite 510, Washington, DC 20036; Telephone: (202)955-6126; e-mail: chea@chea.org]. CHEA is a non-profit organization which acts as the national policy center and clearing house on accreditation for the entire higher education community throughout the U.S.A. Its main mission is to promote academic quality.

University of South Los Angeles (USLA) is a private as a degree-granting institution approved by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE, www.bppe.ca.gov) under California Post Secondary Education Act of 2009. Approval to operate means the institution is compliant with the minimum standards contained in the California Private Postsecondary Education Act of 2009 and Division 7.5 of Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations. University of South Los Angeles was approved by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) on 11/18/2003. SEVP and SEVIS are administrated by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the principal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). USLA is authorized under the Federal Law to enroll nonimmigrant students and issue Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) to international students under F-1 or M-1 visa status.
