Post-Baccalaureate Program

The Post-Baccalaureate Program is designed for students who have already completed an undergraduate degree and are interested in pursuing a professional career in the health sciences. The program targets two different kinds of students. The first are students who have earned a bachelor’s degree in a non-scientific course of study but have decided to pursue a career in the health sciences.  These students therefore need to complete the basic course of study and prerequisites that accompany a general science degree. The second type of student who would benefit from the Post-Baccalaureate Program are students who wish to enhance their knowledge of the sciences in order to be more competitive in pursuing careers in the health sciences.

The program is flexible and allows students to individually design the course of study around their specific educational goals.  Students should be aware that this is not a degree program but rather a post-degree program for students who wish to increase their educational foundation in the sciences in preparation for a career in the area of healthcare.

The following courses are targeted to students who have not completed any basic science and mathematics courses:

  • General Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Physics, Calculus, and Statistics

The following courses are targeted to students who have completed basic science courses but wish to enhance their knowledge in this field:

  • Human Anatomy and Physiology, General Psychology, Pathology, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Pharmacology, Nutrition, Botany, Applied Biostatistics, Public Hygiene, Health Care Economics and Public Health, Application of Computers to Health Care Practice, Health Services Financial Management

Science in Oriental Medicine Program

The University of South Los Angeles School of Science in Oriental Medicine trains master and doctoral students, conducts research, and treats patients at the clinic on campus. Our academic programs are among the most comprehensive in the country, providing students with a solid foundation in health sciences.

In addition to studying general health sciences in the School of Science, students may wish to pursue knowledge of traditional healing practices including acupuncture, which is among the oldest of the healing practices in the world. As part of traditional Oriental medicine, it is based on the concept that disease results from disruption in the flow of qi and imbalance in the forces of yin and yang.
